Wallbarn's innovative modular green roof solution, the M-Tray® Modular Sedum Wildflower Green Roof, means it is now easier and more affordable than ever before to turn a flat roof or podium deck into a green and eco-friendly space. The solution contains a carefully selected mix of annual and biennial seeds that produce flowers up to a height of 50cm (some may reach up to 80cm) and attract bees and butterflies. The seeds are mixed with coir to kick-start the germination process and ensure even distribution.
Wallbarn has developed M-Trays® that come with pre-grown vegetation which is nurtured in specialised modules at their UK nursery for six months. These trays have a proprietary substrate mix that ensures robust root development, yielding resilient and well-established plants. When it comes to wildflower green roofs, they require substantial attention as they need annual deadheading, removal of dry stalks, and elimination of unwanted vegetation, including windborne weeds. As well as this, as these wildflowers are mainly annual and biennial, the green roof needs new seeds every spring to sustain vibrant blooms from spring through late Summer.
These modules are highly portable and can easily clip together, which makes installation faster than roll-out systems. The best part is, you don't need any specialist landscaping or roofing knowledge to install them. To prevent soil deposits from entering the drainage system, it is recommended to lay a geotextile fleece under the trays before installation.

Question:
I have a fibreglass roof the water lies on it to a depth of about 10mm along the edge . ( the roofer said this is normal ) would that cause a problem . I live in south lanarkshire. regards steve
Answer:
I can't this being an issue, if anything the roof will see less water as the M-Trays® will capture a large percentage. Also, with the use of the geotextile underlay - GE-PE-PECT-0300-Z this will help to absorb the standing water and allow the trays to draw from it.
Question:
Can these be installed directly onto a rubber roof and cause no damage?
Answer:
You will need to buy a TNW3000 Protection fleece to lay down first.
Question:
My site is 1.35 x 0.85m can the trays be cut to size?
Answer:
You cant really cut the trays without the soil falling out. You would just leave a stone perimeter around the end of the trays to fill the roof space out.
Question:
How high are these trays?
Answer:
The trays are 100mm in depth.
