DuPont’s GroundGrid® gravel guard, which is exclusive to Drainage Superstore in the UK, is a stable and permeable part of a stabilised gravel system, that can be used to facilitate gravel pathways and driveways. The three-dimensional honeycomb structure is fabricated from a thermally bonded, non-woven geotextile fabric, with each cell being 55mm wide and 50mm depth. DuPont GroundGrid® is intended to be laid down onto a pre-prepared sub-base and filled with the correct grade & type of non-friable crushed gravel aggregate, to create a stabilised gravel surface.
The application of a high quality geotextile is recommended to be laid down prior to the installation of DuPont™ GroundGrid®.
DuPont™ GroundGrid® when installed correctly as per the manufactures installation guidelines, will retain the crushed gravel within the cells, thereby maintaining the gravel surface looking fresh and filled.
DuPont™ GroundGrid® is permeable to water from rainfall or water overflow and will help ensure that water does not pool or flood in a single area, as long as the sub-soil beneath is capable of absorbing the water volumes.
8mm to 16mm of graded, non-friable, crushed angular gravel aggregate is recommended to be used as the in-fill material with the 55x50 GroundGrid®.
Alternative available rounded, blended, mixed, smooth or pea-gravel is strongly not recommended to be used with GroundGrid®, as these materials do not present sufficient friction against the sides walls & surfaces of the DuPont™ GroundGrid® honeycomb cells.
This system is suitable for stabilising slopped landscapes, pedestrian walkways, disabled wheel chair access & cycle paths. GroundGrid® 55x50 can be used for ‘light use straight drive ways’ but it’s not advised to be used for heavily or frequently trafficked vehicular applications, curved or inclined driveways, or where regular turning manoeuvres of vehicles are performed.
The deeper and larger DuPont™ GroundGrid® 110x100 is recommended for most other vehicular applications and if installed correctly is suitable for the more heavily trafficked area and also where hoofed animals might cross.

Provided the gravel is between 8-16mm and angular, a 1 Tonne bag should fill a 10m2 grid. Please keep in mind a base layer and top layer would need to sit outside the grid itself.
