Landscaping Inclined Membranes

When renovating or landscaping your garden, driveway or another area of land, weed control is crucial. If weeds are not under control they can undermine small buildings, prevent other plants from growing, and make areas look unsightly and untidy.

Drainage Superstore has a range of landscaping membranes available for weed control, and a number of landscaping fabrics which are specifically for inclined areas and slopes, helping to minimise soil erosion as well as promoting plant growth whilst preventing weed growth.

What are the benefits of incline landscaping membranes?

Incline landscaping membranes are known for their ability be installed on slopes and inclines. This can help with many applications.

Stopping soil erosion

Having a membrane in place can stabilise loose soil and stop it being eroded by the weather. Slopes and embankments are particularly vulnerable to soil erosion – and this can be dangerous. Not only can moving soil affect the growth of grass or plants, it could also destabilise the slope. Installing a quality inclined landscaping membrane such as DuPont Plantex Gold or DuPont Plantex Cocomat Erosion and Weed Control fabric, is a must.

How it works:

These specialist membranes not only control weeds and promote plant growth, they also work to minimise soil erosion - a huge problem on slopes and steep embankments. But it’s not just soil that’s protected - mulch or wood chips are also able to stay in place.

Suitable for use in areas with up to a 60 degree pitch in the landscape, incline landscaping membranes are easy to install. Simply cut the membrane to the right size with a regular pair of scissors and use some landscaping anchor pins to create a single layer that is anchored into the ground. Drainage Superstore has a range of landscaping membranes specifically designed for inclined areas:

  • DuPont Plantex Gold has a 25-year product guarantee and is up to five years UV stable. Use it on sloped embankments and sloped driveways, where mulch or other toppings don’t hold in place
  • DuPont Plantex Cocomat Erosion and Weed Control fabric looks natural and offers immediate protection against wind and water erosion plus superb weed control in just a single fabric

The DuPont Plantex range consists of a range of landscaping solutions that are chemical free and ecological, to be used on both domestic and larger scale projects. As well as preventing weed and root growth, the DuPont Plantex inclined membranes retain soil biodiversity, with no other chemicals being released into the soil, allowing other plants and creatures to grow in the soil.

DuPont Plantex Cocomat landscaping membrane

One inclined membrane option is Cocomat which is woven with natural coconut fibres, which will change colour slowly from brown to grey, and lasts for up to five years, giving new plants time to take hold and grow. Once this time has passed the membrane turn into mulch naturally, and mulch into the ground.

Alternatively, Plantex Gold is designed specifically for steep inclined areas, where a top cover wouldn’t stay intact for long. With a high porosity to allow moisture and nutrients to pass through to the soil, Plantex Gold is manufactured from 100% polypropylene, which also means it is resistant to chemical attack and alkalis. It can be used uncovered, but if covered with wood bark or gravel, it will perform well for 25 years or more.

Installation is quick and easy, simply cut to the right size with a regular pair of scissors and use some landscaping anchor pins, and double sided tape to create a single layer that is anchored into the ground.
